"FÍKNF"
The Association of Icelandic Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Teachers.
In Icelandic:
Félag íslenskra kennara í nýsköpunar- og frumkvöðlamennt (FÍKNF).
FÍKNF is an
association of teachers at pre-, compulsory-, upper secondary and university
level in innovation and entrepreneurship education (IEE).
The main aim
of the association is to facilitate the cooperation of teachers, increase their
knowledge and to increase an emphasis on IEE in the Icelandic education system.
The
association aims at achieving these goals by monitoring the status of IEE in the
school system and finding ways to strengthen it. The association is the advocate
for and source of information for members and others interested in the matters
of IEE. It will lobby for IEE at undergraduate and masters levels offered as
well as continuing education for in-service teachers.
The main
purpose of the FIKNF association is to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship
education (IEE) in the Icelandic school system on all school levels. Support is
needed at many levels from improving conditions for IEE. First we aim to make
teachers aware of the existence of this subject, the need for it and the kinds
of approaches most likely to support this kind of education. We aim to make the
institutions offering teacher education aware of the same and have them offer
courses in IEE to teacher students and in-service teachers.
We wish to
support the official frameworks for IEE laid down in law and in national and
school curricula. Furthermore we aim to educate the public, parents and others
about IEE to increase their understanding and support for this kind of
education.
Main
activities of FIKNF
The main activities of FÍKNF consist of an annual conference offered to all
interested and in cooperation with several agencies, auch as The Ministry of
Education, Science and Culture, universities, and the national Innovation
Centre. The conference includes educational and informative presentations and
activities. We select a 'best practice' example and offer an award to that
school or teacher that has excelled in the field of IEE.
Another key
part of our activities is courses in IEE for in-service teachers and have
obtained grants from the Teachers' Union (KÍ) and the Ministry of Education,
Science and Culture to carry them out.
Thirdly we
cooperate with many parties, other associations, the Ministry of Education,
Science and Culture, the national Innovation Centre, the Innovation Contest for
Compulsory Schools and others that seek our advice, expertise or cooperation. We
have lobbied in the Ministry of Education for keeping IEE in the national
curricula and we have written a number of articles in newspapers and magazines
to introduce our agenda.
